Social
Security Disability Guide:
Reconsideration
If the claim has been disallowed after the
initial consideration, reconsideration must be requested within 60 days
of the date the disallowance was received. The reconsideration request is considered
by a different person than the one who made the initial decision.
Additional evidence can be filed with the request for
reconsideration, or even after the request for reconsideration is
filed. In most cases the submission of additional evidence at this
stage is helpful.
If the reconsideration is denied, the claimant can file
for a hearing before an Administrative
Law Judge within 60 days of the date when the denial was received.
