Initial
Claim Application
The initial claim is filed by the claimant
at the local district office of the Social Security Administration
located closest to his/her residence.
After the claim is filed, it is considered
by the Social Security Administration and an initial decision is made. The claimant is
notified of the decision.
If the claim is disallowed, the letter the
claimant receives will explain why.
The claimant can file for reconsideration within 60
days of the date the denial of the application was received.
