Social Security Disability Guide:
Initial Application
The initial claim is filed by the claimant at the local district office
of the Social Security Administration located closest to his/her
residence.
After the claim is filed, it is considered by the Social Security
Administration and an initial decision is made. The claimant
is
notified of the decision.
If the claim is disallowed, the letter the claimant receives will
explain why.
The claimant can file for
reconsideration
within 60 days of the date
the denial of the application was received.
